Andrew Nguyen was born and raised in Guelph, Ontario and started his VSA journey at McMaster University where he obtained his B.S. in Biology, with a minor in Psychology, and M.Sc. in Global Health. Growing up in a predominantly Caucasian community, Andrew discovered his cultural identity in 2013 when he joined McMaster’s VSA as a Representative. He has since been active in his Eastern Canada Region, emulating his passion for the Vietnamese community through his involvement as McMaster VSA’s Co-President, UVSA Ontario’s Leadership Summit Marketing and Entertainment Co-Director, UVSA Ontario’s Finance VP and Co-President, and recently with UNAVSA as Family Leader and President’s Council. Combining his interest for improving global health equity and love for the Vietnamese community, Andrew completed a practicum through the Project Vietnam Foundation where he focused on cross-cultural capacity building in health. Andrew hopes to continue fostering sustainable relationships with non-profit organizations and address the social determinants of health through his work. Outside of school and VSA, Andrew is a big foodie, entomology enthusiast, mental health advocate, and loves to experience the serene aspects of nature through hikes or exploration.
