What is the deadline for the application?
Applications will open Monday May 1st, 2023. The deadline to submit an application is Monday, May 15th, 2023 at 11:59PM PST.
Who is eligible to apply for and receive the Visionary Scholarship?
The recipients of the Visionary Scholarship must:
- Not have attended a previous UNAVSA Leadership Conference
- Not be a current UNAVSA Executive Board member, cabinet director, or conference director
- Be a graduating high school student, current undergraduate student, or graduating undergraduate student
What exactly is covered by the Visionary Scholarship?
- One travel stipend for up to $400 USD
- Conference registration (valued at $130 USD)
- Share lodging within the conference hotel for the duration of the conference ($129 USD per night)
I am currently a graduate student who hasn’t attended the conference before. Am I eligible?
Unfortunately, graduate students are not eligible for this scholarship. However, if you are currently enrolled in a program in which you are both an undergraduate and graduate student, you are welcome to apply.
I attended VE and VE-2. Am I eligible?
Yes, students who attended either of UNAVSA’s Virtual Experiences, but have not attended an in-person Leadership Conference are eligible to apply.
If I already paid for registration and/or a hotel, how do I get reimbursed?
If you have already paid for registration and/or lodging and receive the scholarship, you will be contacted to discuss the reimbursement process.
Do I need to be registered in order to apply?
You do not need to be registered for the conference in order to apply.
Do I need to be Vietnamese or part of a VSA/UVSA in order to apply?
You do not need to be ethnically Vietnamese or part of a VSA/UVSA in order to apply. However, we highly encourage applicants to demonstrate an investment in either Vietnamese heritage or community.
I attended conference for the first time last year, but as a family member/performer and not a regular attendee. Am I still eligible?
Unfortunately, you are considered a second-time attendee, and are not eligible.

What is the best format or medium for an application?
We encourage you to submit an application using a medium that best conveys your message. Considerable media would be essays, videos, art pieces, etc.
Are you looking for any particular experience?
We do not look for any particular experience, as our recipients come from a diverse background of leadership and community experience.
What do you encourage on applications?
- We encourage applicants to demonstrate commitment to the Vietnamese community and the development of their own leadership capabilities. We also highly recommend that you tie in the conference theme (“Snapshots”) into your application response.
Will I get feedback on my application once I submit it?
Due to the number of applications we receive, we will not be able to provide feedback on your application or, if applicable, your interview.
